Sheroes of the Caribbean online workshop
The replay is available to purchase, sign up below and the replay will be emailed to you.
I would like to invite you to a workshop dedicated to uplifting the lesser known stories of revolutionary women in the Caribbean who were powerful and highly respected practitioners of African spiritual traditions.
The workshop will centre around two Caribbean warrior women, Queen Nanny of Jamaica and Cecil Fatiman of Ayiti (Haiti) and the influence they had on the land, people, culture and liberation of enslaved Africans.
Throughout history African spirituality has been integral within freedom and liberation struggles against colonialism and African enslavement.
Obeah and Haitian voodoo were the practices used within Jamaica and Haiti during enslavement to unite and bring strength to the everyday challenges people faced at this time and also used in revolutionary warfare.
This workshop will shed light on these 2 heavily demonised practices and the positive influence they had at the time and how they helped change the course of history for the better.
The workshop is aimed to educate and inspire how African ancestors used their traditions and cultures to serve and support each other and resist.
This workshop is open to all those who identify as black, indigenous and/or a person of colour.
For those who are not black/ African heritage you must be working towards black liberation and wish to work in solidarity across cultures and identities.
We wish to open this workshop up to non black people of colour because the Caribbean was made up of many indigenous groups of people before colonialism and then later in history Indian and Chinese indentured labourers made up some of population of these islands.
