Self Care and Healing Day Retreat for black and black, mixed race women
3rd June 11 to 4pm
Experience community, connection, relaxation, learning and fun.
A nourishing and supportive day to build confidence and knowledge through healing and spiritual practices.
The aim of the day is to,
Reclaim and embrace individual identity.
Reclaim confidence and self esteem of body, mind and spirit.
Challenge the ways we have been taught to be less than.
Dream and practise healthy ways of being.
An African centred approach is taken where the community is responsible to help the individuals fulfil one's destiny and wellbeing.
Each person's contribution and uniqueness is valued and respected.
The retreat will include mentoring, yoga, meditation, herbalism and African spiritual wisdom.
You will be welcomed to the retreat with a specially formulated herbal tea blend to support relaxation and wellness.
You will settle into the quiet, calming space, roll out your yoga mat and be led through a gentle and restoring yoga class to help you feel grounded and calm.
Following this there will be an interactive and supportive session around the healing and self care challenges we may face as black and black mixed race women and how we can experience healthier ways of caring for our bodies and minds.
This will include gentle encouragement to reflect on how you want to make positive changes in your life and actionable next steps.
We will then stop for a light lunch to give you free time to connect and chat with like minded people, or you may like to take this time for a pause and quiet time.
Following the lunch break we will have a healing herbs workshop to learn how to use herbs for your self care, wellbeing and understand how herbs have been integral to healing and health for black and African descent people throughout history.
We will then have another interactive session where we will explore how you follow your dreams and desires.
This interactive and informative session will help you get clear and gain more confidence on your life purpose.
Many of us have dreams and goals, however we find ourselves getting stuck, distracted or are met with criticism and disapproval.
I believe we all have a unique gift to be shared and we need to be in the right environment to make this happen.

The day retreat will be run by Emma Kelly, a White British and African Caribbean woman.
I'm an African spiritual researcher, mentor, yoga teacher, international retreat host and trained social worker. I've been teaching yoga classes, workshops and retreats since 2014, having studied my yoga teacher training in Goa, India.
I'm passionate about collective care and healing within the black and mixed race community, to counter the negative effects of the daily challenges of racism and sexism.
I will be teaching 2 of the days workshops about self care and rest and following our dreams and building the confidence.
The herbalism section will be taught by Jay Percy an artist, podcast host, traditional Caribbean spirituality practitioner and psychotherapist in training.

"During Emma’s workshops I had an amazing time. It was just what I needed to relax and restore my mind , body and soul.
I'm a yoga teacher and mother so it’s important to take time to cater to my own needs. It was beautiful to allow my entire body to be and relax and appreciated the safe space Emma created for everyone. After the workshop, I felt very calm and my body was telling me to slow down for the rest of the day . The workshop provided me with vital energy. It was great." Chantice Gervais |
“ By the end of the 12 weeks with Emma I felt a boost in my self esteem and confidence. I had found my inner voice and gained clarity on my next steps for building a sustainable wellness business.
Emma provided a safe and supportive space for me to share my challenges in my yoga teaching career without judgement. I didn't realise how much I needed to process my teaching experiences and express my unapologetic truth until my sessions with Emma. Emma's depth of experiences in yoga, retreats and supporting the BIPOC community, meant she could easily relate to my challenges and offer grounded advice. This was very validating and healing. Emma is a great listener and self-care advocate. Her mentorship taught me the importance of looking after myself and listening to my intuition so I can serve from a nourished and authentic place." Each session with you was very enriching and interesting and I immediately felt at ease and in a safe environment to speak freely about business and personal matters. I love your "mixed"personality, very practical and caring at the same time. Emma's knowledge and experience was very useful to help me understand the need to plan my event ahead and take action to develop my visibility to get some participants. I also gained more confidence ! Following your advice, I took the steps to move forward and I successfully launched my yoga nidra class in September with the number of people I wanted. "Thank you for such an empowering session last night honestly I woke up on a high!!!!
The space you held for us all was absolutely beautiful and the thing I kept saying last night was...Finally some one who understands me... You have given me the tools to diminish those fears about not feeling guilty about speaking up and saying it exactly how it is. You understand the struggles and the ones our ancestors faced. We are both healing and uplifting each other. Aisha Amira Kankiya |
